Does anyone know a trick for this sewing problem?
I am a very beginner sewer. I can thread a machine easily and sew in a mostly straight line, but that’s about where my expertise stops. So even when my little sister told me I should’ve done this in a different order, I stupidly, didn’t listen. I folded over the top of a length of fabric and sewed it down so that now there is a tube. Now I need to thread some leather cording through that tube I made. The problem is that I should’ve put the cording in before I sewed it down and I have no idea how I’m going to do it now. Any helpful hints? I’ve pulled a string through on drawstring pants and a backpack once before that had slipped back in their holes, but I know there’s an easier way than how I did it. I was thinking about using a loop turner even though I don’t need the fabric to be turned inside out. I figure maybe I can cinch it enough where I can pull the cording through?
Open a small spot in the seam and slip through a safety pin or bodkin with your cording attached to the safety pin or bodkin. You can scrunch the pin/bodkin through a bit of the casing, hang on to the head, and pull a bit of cording in. Keep going until you’ve got it all worked through.

BTW, sewing in a drawstring while you’re sewing a casing is usually pretty tough for beginners — you tend to catch the drawstring in the stitching. Running the drawstring through a casing is easier.
And remember, much of getting good at sewing is practice. And there’s a reason why the best selling sewing tool is a seam ripper.

What to know about fashion designing???
I am 16 years old and I’ve had my mind set on fashion designing since I was 12, I own a sewing machine and I’ve just been working on basic stuff like pillows, blankets, and customized rugs for my mom and sisters. I’ve made blankets and pillows for my friends, and new babies in the family. But now I’m ready to move up a level and design things like dresses, shirts, shoes, handbags, skirts, jeans, dress pants, sweaters, sweatshirts, and drawstring bags. I know this is going to be complicating, but this is something that I really love doing and was hoping if there is anyone that could give me some tips like where to find leather fabrics, and the special type of fabrics used to make clothing, shoes and all the other stuff I listed. I also want to know how I could get them into the industry to where I could be discovered and peple could wear my designed clothes. I want to make clothes for boys and girls. Any tips?
Im so happy to see someone asking this question who obviously has a very strong passion for it. You’re totally headed in the right direction.
As for where to get materials, depending on where you live youll have to go about it in a different way. I live in nyc so I go to the garment district and I buy fabric there. But if you dont live somewhere you can go strictly for fabric then your local walmart sells fabrics. If you have a Jo-anns near you, those are great too. If you have neither of those around you, then you can always go online. You can find fabrics on ebay or at fabric stores online. (fabric.com is good)
And sorry, but unless you are incredibly well know, know someone incredibly well know, or are extrememly extraordinarily talented no one in the industry is going to see them. But you CAN get well know by promoting yourself on sites like myspace.com or etsy.com and by having your own website. But this can be time consuming, so you have to make sure you give plenty of time to devote to it.
