What is the deal with the Coach handbags that are being sold on the street? Some say they are real because of the different markings and tags. Some even have little booklets with them with serial numbers on them. If they are not real is it illegal to sell them still? I know if you claim its a Coach and its not you can get in trouble for patent reasons. But if they are not then can you sell them? And where are they coming from and how are people making them look exactly like the Coach handbags you see in stores?

How do you tell the difference between a real designer handbag and a knockoff?
My mother-in-law recently gave me a few new purses for my birthday. She gave me several because I commented a while back about how I didn’t have a functional purse that I really liked. Now I have several to choose from.
All of them are “suppose” to be high name brands. They are all new and came with name tags with serial numbers (minus the price tags) and wrapped with plastic around the straps. To me, the insides and out look like real leather. They are pretty heavy, too, if that helps any. The three that are “Coach” purses do all have a tag sewn onto them that claim they are authentic. In all honestly, I doubt that they are real designer brands, just some nice knockoffs. However, I am wondering exactly how you would tell if they were real?
